LA MAIN DES DIEU
on 2009-12-23 by Betim QypiMost of us followed France-Ireland and everybody saw what happened. That is why I decided to talk just a little bit more about it. But I do not want to focus on what Thierry Henry did, or why he did not confess immediately what happened because it is easily understandable what was going through his head in the specific moment. Every coach in field and training camp always says: NEVER STOP UNTIL YOU HEAR THE WHISTLE.
Try to be in Henry’s place for one moment: You are playing for the entry place in the World Cup, the biggest event ever for a soccer team, and according to me this is going to be one of the best ever. The hole stadium is suffering, the hole Nation is suffering, and you did not hear the referee whistling. So, how many of you would have actually stopped? With a clear mind, after couple of days, watching what happened after it, yes you would have done it, but if you decide it in a few seconds, with the hole stadium cheering, the eyes of the hole Nation on you, and i repeat NOT HEARING THE REFEREE WHISTLE, i have my doubts about any of you would have stopped.
But instead, I want to focus for one moment on some other issues that I consider very delicate For example, how come FIFA decided to choose Mr. Hansson as a referee for this really delicate match? He is a international referee, but in my opinion, based in statistic and in FIFA ranking he is not one of the best. Why the best referees at the moment like the Italian Rosetti and the Swiss Massimo Busaca, both considered like the best referees at the moment, were not directing the game. They both were the referees of the UEFA Champions League Final and the European Championship Final. Was this game not delicate as those to games were?
Or how come there was a ranking between 8 teams that came at this point as 2nd in their groups in the same way? It’s not fair, if teams like Russia, France, Ukraine, and Portugal came at this point exactly in the same way as, Slovenia, Ireland, Greece and Bosnia why they have to be in a different urn. These could be considered a political side of soccer which is neither understandable nor appreciated. In my opinion this happened because the probability that big teams match with each other and not participate on the World Cup. And I certainly can not agree with that. Looking at the economic side. Asked by the Sun, some commercial experts explained that France will earn €1,1 billion with their participation in South Africa, and Ireland only € 0,11 billion. This disproportionate profits clearly explains the power of big teams in the soccer world.
Lots of efforts have been made to eliminate referees’ mistakes. Actually FIFA did try in an experiment during the Under 21 World Cup a ball with a micro chip in it. In this way it could be seen clearly if the ball passes the line of the goal or not. And it turned out a success. They even had another idea to put an additional referee behind the goal who can be able to clearly observe some complicated situations that are difficult for the main referee. And to me sounds a very good idea. But the question is why everything is still in the same way as it was when Maradona scored against England with the hand? How much time do we have to wait to see things getting better? How many small teams have to suffer before things change? These my friends are questions that I can not answer, but I would to love to find a solution and until then lets see some other “MANO DE DIOS”.
